How to choose a weekender home
Not every property you buy has to be something you either live in full time, or rent out to tenants constantly - another popular option for people to add to their portfolio is the weekender home.

Whether it's a quiet cottage in the woods or a more lavish property just out of town, many people like to have a house they can use to get away from it all when they have free time on the weekends.

But what's the best way to find a weekender home for your needs?

Don't go too far from home

While a beachside property can be ideal for some, for others it is simply too much of a trek to get to regularly. If you want to use your quiet abode often, make sure it isn't too far away - you don't want to spend half of your weekend away travelling to and from your destination!

Know what gives you peace of mind

If your week is filled with the hustle and bustle of the CBD, then perhaps your weekends will be best spent enjoying the quiet life in a rural area - while the opposite could apply if your day job is managing a rural business. Know exactly what lets you relax, and then find areas appropriate for this.

What's good for the kids?

If you have children, you will need to consider their wants and needs when choosing a weekend home. Somewhere with good green areas will be excellent for them to play around in, and often rural areas can be great learning experiences. Who knows, by teaching the children a few farmhand tricks you may just open up a whole new set of interests for them!

Once you work out what you want from a weekend home, you can talk to a real estate agent who can identify great properties that meet these needs.
